Boxes The fire department needs immediate access to gated communities when calls for help are received. Walls, gates and fences do a great job of keeping people out but these physical barriers also delay help from first responders during an emergency. Provide Fire Department Access to Your Property The East Side Fire Department recommends the use of the Knox Box lock box to gain entry into a building, if necessary. This is especially important for buildings with fire alarm or fire suppression equipment to have a Knox Box. Before installation, contact the fire prevention bureau with regards to the proper location for the Knox Box. When installation is ready to be made, please call 225-272-7779 and someone will come out and place your keys in the Knox Box while you are present. The Knox Box system works well as long as the keys
used for access are kept current. We realize that for security reasons
it may be necessary to periodically change these keys. It is important
that whenever you make changes to the keys for building/business access,
you notify the fire department. Someone from fire prevention will come
out and install the new keys in your Knox Box. By keeping these keys
current, you will eliminate any damage to your business should we need
to gain entry for a fire alarm or other emergency after store hours.
Also, please keep in mind that only the East Side Fire Department
has the key to access the Knox Box. Contact your fire department and ask them about Knox Key Switches Knox-Boxes. The fire department must authorize your purchase of these products because they are controlled and operated with the Knox® Master Key used by the department. Knox Key Switch Knox electric override key switches are generally installed at the vehicle entrance to gated communities and apartment complexes.
