The patient is finally extricated at 8:21 PM, approximately 17 minutes after the first East Side unit (the fire chief) arrives and approximately 34 minutes after EMS arrives on the scene. The extrication was complicated by live overhead wires affixed to the power pole that was broken by the vehicle. The broken power pole was lying against the vehicle. Additionally, the victim was trapped in an inverted position and pinned at her lower extremities and at her abdomen. Great care had to be taken not to move the power pole or to suddenly release the patient causing additional injuries. |
