Existing Commercial Occupancies Shall Conform to the Following:

The edition of NFPA 101, Life Safety Code in effect at the time of construction. The latest edition of NFPA 1, Fire Prevention Code. The edition of NFPA 13, Standards for Sprinkler Systems (if applicable) in effect at the time of construction. The latest edition of NFPA 14, Standards for Fire Department Response. The fire department must have access to the FDC at all times and must have access to the interior of all commercial buildings at all times after December 31, 2005 by use of a Knox Box (www.knoxbox.com). The East Side fire district is using the 3200 series lockbox and the 3502 model for gates.

New Commercial Construction Shall Conform to the Following:

All plans must be submitted to both the Louisiana State Fire Marshal and the East Side Fire Protection District for approval prior to permitting. Size 11 X 17 or 8 1/2 X 14 plans and electronic format (either *.jpg or *.pdf) are suitable for the fire department reviews. A completed Hydrant Approval Application must be submitted with the plans. Hydrant approval must be completed before construction begins.

No greater than a 1,500 gpm need fire flow (NFF) as calculated by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), which is the East Side Fire Protection District. The district may accept a 2,000 gpm NFF on a case-by-case basis.There shall be a fire hydrant located within 75 feet of every fire department connection (FDC). There shall be a fire hydrant located within a reasonable distance of the front of the occupancy. The fire department will work with the owner on a case-by-case basis to meet both our needs.The fire department must have access to the FDC at all times and must have access to the interior of all commercial buildings at all times after December 31, 2005 by use of a Knox Box (www.knoxbox.com). Total hydrant flow from all hydrants to be utilized for protection of the occupancy, as tested, shall not be less than 2.0 times the calculated NFFAll hydrants may be either public or private but shall be fed via a minimum 8 inch main. If the hydrants are public the fire district will pay the rental costs. All hydrants shall be capable of flowing a minimum of 1000 gpm with a 55 psig static pressure and a 20 psig residual pressure. All hydrants must be installed and in working order before construction commences. Authority to compel the above commercial building requirements is granted to the fire chief in Resolution 2005-01.
